The Company
Cotinga Pharmaceuticals is a Boston-based biopharmaceutical company focused on developing treatments for a broad range of cancers. The challenge was to create a visual identity that felt precise yet organic.
The Design
The logo symbol is a direct visual play on the company’s name. The Cotinga is a genus of vibrant birds; we stylized this form to create a dynamic icon that simultaneously creates the letter “C” and the silhouette of a bird in flight. This symbolism balances the technical nature of oncology research with themes of freedom, hope, and biological life.
Science with a Pulse
The brand photography keeps real researchers in the frame: a scientist at a microscope behind a purple-tinted overlay, soft-focus laboratory scenes beneath the white logo. The work stays visibly human, which matters for a company whose subject is cancer treatment.
The teal-to-purple gradient gives the bird movement, as though caught mid-flight, while the clean typography holds the scientific register. On bright clinical backgrounds the full lockup reads as precise and credible; over the lab photography it reads as hopeful. One mark, both registers, which is exactly the balance an oncology brand has to strike.
The Result
The teal-to-purple gradient within the bird mark gives Cotinga a distinctive presence in an industry dominated by clinical blues and sterile greens. The identity performs well across scientific publications, investor presentations, and clinical trial documentation, where credibility is non-negotiable. By grounding the brand in a meaningful symbol rather than abstract geometry, we gave the company a story it can tell at every stage of growth, from early-stage funding rounds to future product launches.
