The Initiative

Resilient Watertown is the unifying brand for the sustainability initiatives of the Town of Watertown, MA. The goal was to create an inclusive identity that speaks to a diverse community balancing industrial history with a modern tech sector.

The Design

We created a landscape-style logo that harmonizes the built environment with nature. The design features a continuous line connecting city buildings, trees, and active transport (a bicycle) sitting above the waves of the Charles River. The fresh green and blue color palette reinforces the themes of clean energy, water conservation, and community health.

A Civic System

The lockup carries the initiative's tagline, Taking action together for a better future, making the mark a call to participation rather than a government stamp. Photography of the Charles River and the town's bike paths grounds the brand in the actual places the programmes protect.

Variations in green, blue, and white line-art cover the full civic range: full-colour for digital channels, single-colour for newsletters printed on recycled stock. For a brand about sustainability, the decision to design for modest reproduction was not a constraint but a statement, the identity practises what the initiative preaches.

The Result

The mark now appears on town signage, community newsletters, and public event materials across Watertown. We kept the line-art style deliberately simple so it reproduces well in single-colour print on recycled paper, aligning the production itself with the initiative’s sustainability values. The identity successfully unifies several separate environmental programmes under one recognisable civic brand that residents identify with.
